In 2013, the GEL and its technical partners (CTHT and PIP/COLEACP) drew up the Self-Control System Guide (GSAC) for the lychee sector. This guide has enabled the risks of exceeding sulphur dioxide residue limits (MRLs) to be effectively and permanently controlled, through measures implemented at every stage of the production process.
In addition, every year, lychee exports from Madagascar are systematically analysed for MRL residues, both on departure from Madagascar and on arrival in Europe.
The application of good practices at every stage of production, as well as the traceability of products from the field to unloading in Europe, ensures constant monitoring from harvest to export. This is a guarantee of the consumability of Litchi for end customers.
GEL is aware that the creation of a safe and healthy environment within the company is essential for the respect of workers’ rights. It therefore adheres to the fundamental principles of Health and Safety at Work.
It promotes a policy and culture of prevention of illness and accidents in the workplace, and assists its members in assuming their responsibilities and ensuring compliance.
It encourages the implementation of these provisions on an ongoing basis, as well as their continuous improvement, to ensure that this collective commitment is put into practice gradually but over the long term.
